NYC Crime Statistics

NYC+Crime+Statistics

At a second State of the City address, New York City Mayor Eric Adams outlined the creation of more community safety teams and violence prevention initiatives. He described New York City’s repeat offenders of violent crimes, or New York’s “Most Wanted”, who he is working with the governor, the legislature, and partners in Albany to get off the streets.

CompStat 2.0 is the New York City Police Department’s means of making crime statistics available to the public. The CompStat 2.0 portal is available for public usage in the form of an interactive map displaying greater specificity of different types of crime.

Robbery, felonious assault, burglary, and grand larceny auto increased this January compared to the same month of the previous year, increasing total crime by 4.1%, said the NYPD.

The NYPD stated on February 3 that according to citywide crime figures, there were fewer homicides and shootings with firearms in January 2023 compared to January 2022.

Samariah Paul, WJPS sophomore, said “I think it would be best to focus on preventing a variety of crimes, but school shootings are especially important, cause they affect our city’s youngest and connect to me personally as a student.”

“I think that all schools around the world should be protected so that shootings are prevented, because we do not want anyone to fear for their life or ever be in danger,” WJPS sophomore Lidia Kraljic stated.
