Ringing in 2022

Ringing+in+2022

As 2022 is approaching, the New Year’s Eve event in Times Square, New York is one of the traditions that has been long-lasting.

Dating back to 1907, the Times Square annual event has been held for 114 years.

Due to the pandemic last year there was not a celebration, but the crystal ball still fell as usual, even if there were no crowds of onlookers.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio recently announced the reopening of the Times Square ball drop, promising more city plans to make it safe.

This year, each visitor needs to show their proof of vaccination along with an identification as they enter the Times Square to reduce the risk of spreading COVID.

WJPS freshman Victoria Sepúlveda said, “I think it’s going to be cool. I will probably go to see it, it will be exciting watching the ball drop in person.”

WJPS junior, Sandra Amastal said, “I think it is exciting because it is about the reopening of New York and people gather to come to watch the ball drop.”
