- How many years have you been a teacher?
six and half years: since September 2008
- What inspired you to become a teacher?
I had phenomenal teachers through the years. I love helping others and working with teens.
- What subject do you teach and why did you choose to teach this subject?
I teach Journalism and Special Education. I studied Broadcast Journalism as an undergraduate at Hampton University and I am honored to teach students how to seek the truth and report it.
- What teacher(if any) impacted your life when you were in school?
My High School English teacher Mr. Thomas Cordero had a huge impact on my life. He set high expectations and always encouraged his students to work harder.
- Has being a teacher changed who you are? If so, how? For the better or worse?
Becoming a teacher has changed my life for the better. I learn so much from my students and I enjoy their contributions to the classroom environment.
- What do you believe the ups and downs of being a teacher are?
Ups
-Opportunity to share my passion and foster it in others
-Opportunity to make a difference
Downs
-Difficulty meeting the needs of many diverse students. Class overcrowding, students with very different needs, and limited resources can make it very difficult to do my job.
- Have your students impacted you as a teacher?
Absolutely! Each day I learn so much from my students and teaching them gives my life purpose.
- Do you have a secret talent?
I don’t have a secret talent but I do enjoy dance aerobic fitness classes.
