(Virtual) CollegeNow Classes: Are they worth taking?

%28Virtual%29+CollegeNow+Classes%3A+Are+they+worth+taking%3F

CollegeNow is an opportunity for high school students to take a college level class and earn college credit. High school students in WJPS can choose from a variety of classes either in Queens College or Queensborough Community College.

Certain requirements are needed to get accepted to these classes such as a grade above an 80 in one or more of your core subjects.

Before the pandemic, students could commute to the campus and take their classes there. Now, classes can only take place online in order for students to stay safe.

The question arises: Would students, who have taken a course, recommend others to try it?

Julia Aiello, a WJPS senior, said, “I would recommend taking a college course to other high school students. Not only is it a free way to earn college credits, it can also provide a ‘lukewarm’ college class experience.”

However, “Taking CollegeNow classes virtually is not the same as it would be taking it in person. When things go back to stability I would recommend taking a CollegeNow class in person,” explained Angelina Loiacono, a WJPS junior.

A date has not been announced to resume these courses on campus.
