Field Day 2019

Field+Day+2019

By. Brandon Gomez, Community Reporter

WJPS’s Annual Field Day on October 25th was an event filled with teamwork and support. High school and middle school students were given a day to either take part in physical activities or just have a day off from class outside with their classmates.

Taking place in Crocheron Park in Bayside, middle school students worked together and competed against each other in three-legged races, egg spoon races, large pants races, and even noodle races. High school students participated in competitive two-hand touch football games, soccer games, and volleyball circles.

Field Day organizer Mr. Maroney said, “It took me two weeks to arrange Field Day and all of the relay races.” He was asked what’s the best part about Field Day and he said, “For middle school, it’s teamwork, for high school it’s having a great day out in the fresh outdoors because everyone needs a day off from school now and then.”

Many middle schoolers had smiles on their faces as they were racing each other in creative, wacky relay races. As eighth grader Oliver Gonzalez finished his egg spoon race, he was asked about the highlights. He said, “My favorite part is working together with your friends and having a great time. It’s a great experience to race in these funny races because you can be yourself and no one can really judge you.”

Although not all students were playing sports, some students decided to sit and relax on wooden benches. Other students brought blankets so they could lay on top of the grass and eat snacks while listening to music on loudspeakers.
