What happened to Deron Williams

Deron Williams, the centerpiece of the Brooklyn Nets, has struggled to keep up with other stars in the league. If Williams doesn’t pick up the pace, he may end up being traded, or put onto the bench as a reserve player. As the Brooklyn Nets were eliminated from the playoffs by the Miami Heat, Deron Williams, point guard “superstar,” struggles to stay in the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Williams averaged 14.3 points and 6.1 assists per game. In the postseason, Williams had a 39% field goal percentage, one of the worst percentages in his career. In the regular season, he averaged a 45% field goal percentage, meaning that he didn’t even make half of his shots.

“Deron Williams wasn’t as good as last year, even though he was on the olympic team. He still isn’t how he should be now,” junior Xavier Angulo said.

For a “star” point guard, Williams is falling into a bad position. Williams doesn’t even come close to rookie Michael-Carter Williams, who averages 16.7 points per game.

Williams also scored 0 points after 9 attempts against the Miami Heat on May 8th, the worst game he has ever played in his career.

“The Brooklyn Nets had no chance of defeating the Miami Heat. I wasn’t surprised Williams missed all of his field goals,” senior Shen Lin said.

With averages like that, no one will want Williams on their team. If he doesn’t pick up his slack and play like he did on the Utah Jazz (before getting traded to the Brooklyn Nets back in 2011 when he averaged a 46% field goal percentage), Williams might as well be playing as a reserve point guard.

“Deron Williams is doing bad this season.I don’t know what is up with it, maybe his early injuries have factored in,” junior Petros Giannakopoulos said.

Williams efforts are causing the Nets to go downwards. If they don’t make any adjustments by switching Williams out and trading him for someone in better talents, the Nets will not make any progress for next year.
