Look out, the teenagers are coming!
Teens Take the Met on October 17th at the Metropolitan Museum of Art invites teenagers from ages 13-18 to come visit the Met and their specially run programs for this night from 5-8pm. The Metropolitan Museum of Art is hosting a free teen night entitled “Teens Take the Met,” a night devoted to freeing teenagers from parental supervision for the night, while they enjoy many programs that will be running just for them.
The Met is working with over 30 partner museums and organizations to make this Friday night fun and memorable for all. On October 17th, from 5-8 P.M., the teenagers are taking over.
Activities for the night include making and designing art, live music and performances, a dance party, activities run by partner organizations in certain galleries, films, and free giveaways all to ensure a night of freedom and enjoyment.
“It seems really cool and could be super fun. I would definitely go if I could get my friends to go with me,” sophomore Eliana Blech said.
Teens are expected to enter through the Education Entrance of the museum on 81st street and can just show up with their middle or high school I.D., no RSVP is required.
Everyone attending the event will receive a swag bag, but the first 100 to arrive will have theirs filled with just a bit more. Organizations will be staffing information tables and hosting interactive activities for everyone ages 13-18. The night will be photographed.
“I think Teens Take the Met could be a really cool event to see take place in such a big museum. Everyone is always required to be so quiet in museums and it seems like it would be a totally different experience to see the museum in a more laid back manner, with everyone just focused on having a good time,” senior at Hillcrest High School Miguel Melo said.
Met is working on this event with over 30 partners, some including the American Museum of Natural History, Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, and the New York Hall of Science.
