Say farewell to Strawberry Fields
Sadly Strawberry Fields has closed down, many students and even teachers are disappointed because they supplied WJPS faculty and students with amazing ice coffees, ices, muffins, and much much more. Strawberry Fields Fruit and Vegetable Market, a local organic deli where many students and WJPS staff bought breakfast and lunch from, is no longer in business.
According to the owners Tom and Steve, Strawberry Fields closed because of rising operating costs. They were in business for almost thirty two years.
“Anytime a business closes I’m sad, unless it’s for retirement–but they didn’t. They closed because the rent was raised, so it’s sad. I do hope someone comes in really soon though,” principal Mrs. Schneider said.
Strawberry Fields was officially closed on July 6, 2014, while school was already out for the summer. It came as a bit of shock when students returned to school and could not purchase food from this deli.
“I used to go to Strawberry Fields every morning before I went to school. It was the only place I could go buy affordable items. The food wasn’t the only great thing about this place. The managers were always friendly. I am going to miss Strawberry Fields,” junior Brendon Muñiz said.
Strawberry Fields sold a wide variety of things ranging from bagels to coffee to yogurt muffins and so much more. In this deli, there was even a small area where customers could sit down and eat if they chose to. Strawberry Fields even sold breakfast foods throughout the afternoon.
“I’m really sad because I can’t get my bagels from there with my friends anymore,” junior Adriana Anez said.
