Students enjoy field day on Monday October 6 by competing with fellow schoolmates in other grades. “I really enjoyed field day because I love sports and I am a really competitive athlete, and I wanted to enjoy my last field day at WJPS” said senior Dominique Cachia. The sports games, organized by Mr. Maroney and Mr. Angeles, had a wonderful turn out and brought out a small competitive streak between grades. Picture by Adva Fuchs

Spirit possessed by students at the school wide Field Day was able to be seen, and heard, throughout the day in Crocheron park. Grades sixth through twelfth showed their pride by wearing their grade colors and yelling excitedly with friends about beating the opposing team in the next round of scheduled activities.

“I liked the games. I thought they were good exercise. I enjoyed soccer because I got to steal the ball [and] verse the seventh grade,” sixth grade student Joseph Hong said.

Games such as potato sack races and shoe tosses, along with sports such as Football and Soccer were played in rotation by all the teams so that every grade had a chance to verse a different grade.

“We are the faces of Field Day. [Our teams] were hip-hoppin’,” senior Luci Laut said.

Even those who said they would not participate, at the end of the afternoon, reported to have enjoyed themselves.

“I thought [Field Day] would be boring, but once we got to the field and played some games I realized it was kind of fun because I got to interact with other grades,” freshman Peter Psihoulas said.

For the students, as well as the teachers, Field Day went off without a hitch. In comparison to last years “rained out” field day, this years was run so smoothly that Principal Mrs. Schneider gave the students a jeans day (an almost unheard of reward for the uniformed students) on October 8th to praise them for a job well done.
