Donating toys for a great cause

by Yura Shin, staff reporter

WJPS' Greek Club is heading a fundraiser to donate new toys to the organization "Toys for Tots." These toys are for children ranging from the ages of new borns and teenagers in the Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and Montefiore Hospital to receive gifts for the holidays. "This year Toys for Tots took a main priority for the Greek Club members due to the fact we were donating to two hospitals," Greek Club Vice President, Laina Vitarelli said.

Greek Club is hosting their annual Toys for Tots. This year, the school is donating the toys to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and Montefiore Hospital. With the holiday season getting closer, donating a toy can be a way to help a child in need of a smile.

“We have been doing Toys for Tots for many years now and it means a lot to the Greek Club because during [my] freshman year, we went to St. Mary’s Children’s hospital and saw the children there. Every since then, we felt as if it’s a priority to do Toys for Tots,”Greek Club President Tina Maria Kouridakis said.

The toys can be for any age group from toddlers to teens. If the gift is wrapped, there must be a label with the appropriate gender and age group for the recipient of the toy. The Greek Club will be collecting toys until Wednesday, December 18th in the lobby near the staircase or in Mrs Douvres’ room.

“These kids are in hospitals connected to machines instead of being home with their family on Christmas Day. To me personally, it means a lot to make these kids happy,” Kouridakis added.
