PTA has returned with their annual Ice Skating Night. This year is their fifth year mark of this event.

Ice-Skating Night was first introduced by a PTA parent, whose daughter was a member of the ice rink. Since then, it became a part of the school’s tradition.

“Kids love ice skating and getting together with their friends for a night time activity. At the end of the night nobody wants to go home. They would probably stay till midnight if we let them,” PTA president Dana Arendt said.

This year, the event will be held on Saturday, February 27th, from 7:30 to 10:00 PM at Andrew Stergiopoulos Parkwood Ice Rink in Great Neck. All members of the school (in grades six through 12), their family members, and friends outside of the school are welcome to join.

Tickets are $13 per skater. But they won’t be cheap for long. After February 22nd, ticket prices will rise to $16. Each ticket includes admission and skate rental. Participants may bring their own pair of skates, but they still must pay the full price.

Food coupons, which include a hot dog and a drink, can be purchased for an additional for $5.

Students should include their permission and payment in a sealed envelope and leave it in the “WJPS PTA” mailbox in the main office.

Parents, siblings, and other participants who wish to accompany the student, but do not wish to skate, may come in for free. They are welcome to sit and rest at the cafe by the fireplace.

Students, who have gone in the past, have shown great spirit through this event.

“[I went] because a lot of my friends were going. It was fun. I liked that there’s a big type of food. There are cones in the middle so they can keep dangerous incidents out. They create a safe environment. [My advice is] don’t hold on to the wall. Ice-skating is all about trial and error. Don’t quit while you’re at it,” eighth grader Daniel Ian said.
