Singer, songwriter, and actress, Lady Gaga, has been chosen as Billboard’s 2015 Woman of the Year. The “mother monster” has been honored with this award, along with many other great women from previous years, including Taylor Swift, P!nk, Beyonce, and so on. Lifetime is working with Billboard to produce this Lifetime televised event.

“We’re delighted to partner with Billboard on this special event, bringing it to a mass audience for the first time ever. Lady Gaga is an extraordinary artist, emblematic of the strength, courage, and fortitude that Lifetime celebrates, and we are thrilled to offer our platform to recognize her in every way she deserves,” executive Vice President of Lifetime Liz Gatley said.

Recently, Lady Gaga was casted as “The Countess” in the FX series American Horror Story: Hotel. Gaga has also hit the charts with her video for the song “Till it Happens to You,” which was released to raise awareness for sexual assault victims in colleges. It’s based on the upcoming documentary, The Hunting Ground, which discusses rape and sexual assault in colleges.  Her fifth solo-album is going to be released next year too.

“I feel like Lady Gaga didn’t earn her rights to be women of the year. I feel like she doesn’t represent a person who should’ve been nominated as women of the year,” junior Melanie Dobuler said.

The Women in Music event will air on December 18 on Lifetime.
