Freshmen are moved by Malala

Recently the movie He Named Me Malala has hit theaters. Malala’s story is one that is moving many. Malala was shot in the head by the Taliban for standing up for women’s education. This movie follows her story about how she continues to fight for this right.
On Friday November 6th, the freshman class took a trip to see this movie. The trip was fully funded by the Students Stand with Malala fund. Mr. Petrotta wrote a proposal to the company explaining why he thought it would benefit the freshman class and why the students needed to hear Malala’s message.
After seeing the movie, many students were moved by Malala’s message and wanted to follow in her footsteps.
“In the future I want to follow Malala’s footsteps to help children of the world get an education,” freshman Julia DiMarcello said.
Besides wanting to follow in her footsteps some students realized just how fortunate they truly are in America.
“The movie showed me how fortunate we are to receive an education in a safe environment,” freshman Luka Jakic said.
After the students returned to school, freshman English teacher Ms. LaVerda made the students write thank you letters to the foundation.
Going on the trip to see He Named Me Malala was a success. It helped spread the message of standing up for educational rights, and it showed the students how truly lucky they are to be getting the education that they do and that in life they have to stand up for what they believe in.
“Malala is an amazing example of what can be accomplished when you dedicate your life to standing up for what you know is right, and for what you feel and believe in your heart,” freshman english teacher Ms. LaVerda said.
