Modern Duel of Swords

By:Ye Chen, Sports Reporter

Athletes in fencing hold a slender, elastic, steel sword in one hand, wear an Epee mask on their head, wear prescribed clothing, and compete in a duel in a rectangular field.

The winner is determined by jabbing the opponent with the tip of the sword within the allotted time.

The competition is played on a kendo with a width of 1.5 meters to 1.8 meters and a length of 14 meters. The players of the two teams are positioned two meters away from the center line.

Competitors should stand sideways, the sword must be pointed at the opponent, and the hand that is not holding the sword should be leaned against the back.

WJPS sophomore, Hui Zhang stated, “This is a confrontational competition, and the fencing competition should be watched by more people.”

WJPS junior, William He said, “Fencing is a cool sport, fencing can make people focus on the game.”
