Hoodies in the classroom

Hoodies+in+the+classroom

Students may get cold in the classroom as the temperature outside is declining. Hoodies are a way for students to stay warm in the classroom, but also avoid being too hot.

Some students that wear hoodies are constantly being asked to take off their hoods by various teachers, but is it really that big of an issue? If a student is wearing a WJPS uniform they should be allowed to have their hoods up.

If WJPS is so set on the rule of no hoods in the building, why do they give students a uniform with a hoodie? This further influences this behavior.

One WJPS freshman, Isabella King stated, “The fact that we are not allowed to wear hoodies bothers me, it has no effect on anyone, it’s just comfortable.”

WJPS junior, Owen Wasiak stated, “Sometimes it’s very cold in the classroom and my ears get cold, I use the hood to counter that problem. If my body is cold I should have the opportunity to warm it up.”

A student feeling most comfortable with their hood up during class does not affect how the class is being taught as well as not posing any distractions to other students being taught. It is simply more comfortable and should be allowed in the classroom.
