WJPS Entrepreneurs

WJPS+Entrepreneurs

In the WJPS community, there are several student entrepreneurs. Nyla Briones and Jared Bencosme share their secrets to starting and owning a business, and the steps it takes to become successful.

Jared Bencosme, a WJPS junior, owns a shoe reselling business. He has made over $1000 in sales since the start of his business in September 2021.

Bencosme said, “If you want to start a business you should start as soon as possible. You never know how successful you can be if you never start somewhere.”

Bencosme also explained that running a business was one of the most gratifying things he has accomplished in his life. He said, “I make money doing something I care about. I can see myself doing this for the rest of my life.”

Nyla Briones, a senior at WJPS owns a sustainably sourced sewing company. Although her business is relatively new, she has already made over 20 sales this month of her handmade makeup bags.

Briones uses Etsy as her way to sell merchandise. Briones said, “I really recommend Etsy for new brands to sell their products because you don’t have to go through the stress of creating your own website.”

Briones recommends using materials that are either cheap or free to maximize your profits. She said, “I source all my fabrics from thrift stores so it is good for the environment and cheaper to produce.”

Although they are young, Briones and Bencosme have shown that it is possible to start a business and succeed through hard work and determination.
