After two years of remote learning, most students and teachers have become very familiar with remote education, allowing them to switch on and off with in-person. 

This practice allows no snow days during weather hazards. Although learning through those conditions may not be the problem, how severe does the weather have to be for schools to close? 

The New York City Department of Education states if the air temperature is -25 degrees or the wind chill is -35, school will be called off. 

WJPS junior Ava Ciardiello stated, “Last Tuesday,  I didn’t come to school due to the major weather conditions. I couldn’t wait for the bus under all that rain.” 

Another junior at WJPS, Ameen Afroz said, “Before COVID, I used to miss school just because of the weather. I couldn’t stand through snow storms waiting for buses to come. I was getting marked absent for something I couldn’t control and I don’t think that’s fair.”

School closing for school days could become more lenient due to online learning. Although students will not attend in-person school, education will still continue online.
