Holiday Online Shopping Increases During COVID-19

Holiday+Online+Shopping+Increases+During+COVID-19

This year, the holiday shopping season is looking very different for some, since many people are feeling concerned about going out to shop, due to COVID-19.

Many have resorted to online shopping as a safer and more convenient way to get things for the holidays.

Online retailers and delivery services have seen an increase in sales and the need to employ more workers.

Shipmatrix.com has reported more than seven million packages need to be shipped per day.

This season, FedEx is hiring 70 thousand additional seasonal employees, while UPS is hiring 100 thousand.

Amazon is hiring 100 thousand new employees to deal with the increase in online sales.

“Given the present climate of the pandemic, I feel that online holiday shopping not only offers convenience, but safety as well,” said WJPS teacher Paul Andrejkovics.

According to digitalcommerce360.com, Target online sales have increased 155% last quarter going into the holiday season while Walmart saw a 79% increase online.

Online shopping is a convenient and safe way to shop, but there are people who still miss actually going to stores and looking at things for themselves.

According to Logan Ruiz, a junior at WJPS said, “Online shopping is alright, but there are times where I prefer to try out the stuff in person.”
