Tipped workers soon will be making $7.50 an hour instead of the $5 an hour they were getting payed.

Workers who received gratuities, were only required to be paid $5 an hour instead of the standard minimum wage of $8.75 as long as tips make up for the money lost.

As of December 31st workers will start receiving a pay of $7.50 an hour but naturally get raised to $8.50 an hour if the state minimum wage also raises. The states minimum wage is set to rise to $9 an hour and gradually make it up to $11.50 an hour.

“Only if it goes up $2.50 it is a big difference and can be very helpful to others,”  junior Emilee Verdaguer said.

Although this might rise in raise in prices for Restaurants, workers have been waiting 4 years to get a raise in their paychecks.

“I think its good for the workers that they will be making more money although food prices might increase, they have been waiting awhile for the raise,” Algebra 2 teacher Christina Appler said.

Minimum wage will be raised by the end of 2015 for tipped workers and non-tipped workers.
