Sociology 101 at WJPS

Sociology 101 at WJPS

WJPS’ Sociology class on Tuesday’s after school started on September 10th. It’s a new program facilitated by Queensborough Community College. There are about 25 students in the class and it runs from 3:00 to 6:00pm.

Sociology is the study of exploring how an individual’s place in society can affect experiences, values, or choices. “Sociology adds context to an individuals’ social dilemma that allows one to understand the causation and effect of history.” said the Professor Israa Ismaeil.

The class is based on social interaction and the reason why. Students were given textbooks named “Introduction to Sociology” and Professor Ismaeil expects everyone to read chapter one and two. Then the class is going to watch ‘Black Mirror’ on Netflix.

WJPS junior, Jonna Blaskovic said, “What I enjoy most about this class is that I am able to learn and talk about different ideas about socialization. I find this class quite interesting, and I would definitely recommend taking this class next year if it is provided.”

“My goal for this class is to learn more about the sociological imagination and to be able to apply what I learn towards future situations.” said WJPS junior Jesenia Valderrama.
