It’s the time of the year again, National Honor Society partners up with the Food Bank for New York City in their Students Against Hunger campaign. Students are asked to bring non-perishable food items such as cookies, pasta, canned food to donate.

“It’s really important to donate to the food drive because a lot of people are not as fortunate as we are. As a community, it is important to give back to other people. If we don’t help, who will?” sophomore Eliana Blech said.

This is the third year that the National Honor Society has taken part in the drive since the club’s official club inception in the 2010-11 school year. Prior to that, members were simply inaugurated into the society, but it was not as community and service driven as it is now.

According to The Food Bank for New York City,  statistics show that over 90% of children receiving a free or reduced lunch rate at school are at risk of not eating again that day.

“Something as little as bringing in a can of food can make a difference in the lives of others. Our goal is to collect 700 items of food this school year, which shouldn’t be a problem if every student donates just one item,” National Honor Society Advisor Ms. Paplow said.

Food drive will run until November 27th. All contributions will be greatly appreciated. Drop off sites are located in the bins by the elevator as well as inside Ms. Paplow’s room (Room 324, the office next to Mr. Lumetta’s office).
