Students engage with professionals

Teenagers are constantly faced with decisions that have to be made everyday, and the most important ones are those that relate to their future career goals. Students were given the opportunity to do this on career day, by being able to meet and talk to real professionals from  various fields.

On Wednesday, November 20th, professionals from a model to a veterinarian agreed to volunteer their time to inspire students and given them insight on what their careers are like. They visited classes from second to third period, giving background knowledge of their job,  and answered students’ questions about their careers.

When time was up, someone else from a different field entered the classroom and the cycle continued until 10:31 a.m. After, press conference was held with all of the visitors beginning of fourth period.

“It was a great way to speak to actual professionals one on one and get a sense of the real world,”  sophomore Marcella Orlando said.

A baseball player named Keith Couch, who due to his health, was not able to attend career day. Dean Mr. Millman represented him by traveling to his assigned classes and talking about the life of a baseball player.

“Its all about effort and if you’re not going to be the best you can someone who is doing above and beyond will take your spot. That’s not only for sports, but any career,”  Mr. Millman said.
