Francis Lewis pounds Flushing 7-4

Francis Lewis started off auspiciously, defeating Flushing High School in convincing fashion. They look to extend their winning ways when Flushing comes to Francis Lewis later this week.

Francis Lewis, red hot after their last string of games, recently commenced in a two game series against Flushing High School on Wednesday May 6th.

Their first game of the series emanated from Flushing High School, giving them home-court advantage.

Francis Lewis players felt confident going into the game. Some of the players expected to take over the game midway around the fifth inning.

“I’m feeling a Home Run today,” Shortstop Quincy Tunstall said shortly before the game.

Flushing took the lead early in the bottom of the second. A total of three bases were stolen in the bottom of the second, proving to be a focal point of their offense early.

Third Baseman Zachary Damasco responded in the very next inning with a single that would tie the game. This gave Francis Lewis momentum in which would prove to be the best inning for Francis Lewis.

In the top of the fourth, Outfielder Jesse Falik hit an rbi triple which would yield three runs. The clearing triple would give Francis Lewis a 4-1 lead.

Lewis wasn’t finished yet, Tunstall would hit another triple would would bring Falik home for the 5-1 lead. This burst of offense was met with a loud ovation from the fans supporting the Patriots.

With the lead in tact, it was up to Francis Lewis to maintain their strong lead. Francis Lewis would display great defense preventing Flushing from scoring making great catches and saves to escape the inning.

Lewis would go on to score three more runs going into the bottom of the seventh. They looked to have everything wrapped up, however Flushing had different agendas.

With their last rally, Flushing High School would produce three more runs, cutting Lewis’ lead to three. Flushing’s last ditch efforts were quelled however due to Pitcher Joshua Azon’s superb strikeout to end the game with the score being 7-4.

With this victory, Francis Lewis improves to a great 10-3 record. Their closing in on Benjamin N. Cardozo High School for first place in their division.

Game two of this series will continue on Friday May 8th. Moving forward, every game is now crucial for Franny Lew.
