Juniors approach the college life

by Jaclyn Thompson, staff reporterScreen shot 2015-05-12 at 8.25.54 AM

Juniors got to see how it was like on a college campus during a trip to Queensborough Community College (QCC). During this time, juniors were taken on a tour of the Holocaust Center, an Accelerated Study in Associates Program (ASAP), had a talk with Danielle Izzo, a campus tour, and a tour of the art exhibit. Students got a feel of what it was like to be on a college campus on October 14th.

“The purpose of this trip was to expose students to college, specifically QCC because we have a fair amount of students who end up going there,” assistant principal Nicholas Jurman said.

During the ASAP talk, they talked about the possibility to go to a CUNY school like QCC for free. This gave the students a chance to get a feel of the college life and the school for it to be a possible college choice. All students need is $1 of financial aid. It also gave the students a chance to go to college when they cannot afford it.

“The school only showed its positives and not its negatives. You can tell they tried their hardest to make the school look good,” junior Dominick Zuzio said.

To attend QCC, SAT or ACT exams, or any specific grades, are not required.
