Return of the Troubadour’s Contest gives students a chance to win 500 dollars by writing a song. It is open to all students from ages 13 and up. The song they write must be an original, and their own composition. It is to be sent using MP3 format by December 15 by 5pm.

Votes for this contest will be casted by the public on January 1, 2015 and the results are expected to be in by February 14, 2015.

Students must write a song that is not only original but also have to do with social change, protest, or inspiration. Along with their song, they will be asked to send in information regarding their age, name, mailing address, email address, and their phone number.

“I don’t really feel comfortable sharing my information with someone I don’t know but winning $500 sounds cool,” junior Maryann Liu said.

Songs that contestants created will be judged by originality (students are allowed to choose any style they wish such as rap, jazz, classic, etc.) and ability, and students are allowed to submit only one song.

Once the song is submitted, students are giving Return of the Troubadour the permission to post and use it at will with no other payment to the winner (the winner will still attain the rights of the song).

Students can take this contest as a chance to share their passion and feeling as well as their talents out into the world.

“This contest seems like a good idea, I would write about pollution and how it is going to cause a long term effect on us. I think more people should participate in this contest because it gets the idea across to many people through one song in what you find important,” sophomore Nicole Yu said.

Submissions and more information can be found at  Return of the Troubadour.
