Freshmen orientation happens in the beginning of every school year, to familiarize the students with the school and teachers. They get a chance to understand the rules and regulations of the school before coming in unprepared.

Nervous faces and sweaty hands, all tell tale signs that new freshman are here, and they’re here to stay. Incoming 9th graders had the chance to get to know WJPS and their soon to be teachers during an orientation held on June 9th from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., during a half day for the middle school students.

This gives them the opportunity to familiarize themselves with their new high school and meet the students that they will be spending the next four years with.

“The transition from eighth to ninth grade is a really difficult one, and we want to help them with it. We hold two orientations, one now and one in September to really help with any questions they have, with any anxiety about starting high school, to give them some time and to really get them interested in starting high school,” Principal Mrs. Schneider said.

Orientation began in the auditorium and was then moved to classrooms along the second floor. The students were split up into multiple groups to follow a schedule and meet with the ninth grade core subject teachers, including Mr. Tesler, Ms. Lueth, Mrs. Douvres and Ms. Marks.

They were informed of what to expect of their ninth grade classes, how their schedules would look, the requirements of beginning high school, the uniform policy, summer assignments, credit requirements, regents, and were welcomed into their new high school lives.
