A well-renown club for students who are diligent and devoted to their community as well as their studies, the NHS plans and participates in nationwide school-hosted service projects. Annually, new students are inducted into the National Honors Society. However, this year there was something different.

In addition to the Candle Lighting Ceremony, Nicole Valencia, president of the NHS, came up with the Passing of the Torch Ceremony. This ceremony was meant to make sure the underclassmen keep up the expectations of the NHS after the seniors go off to college.

“I thought the passing of the torch ceremony was a great new addition because it emphasized the hard work the seniors have done,” National Honor Society advisor, Ms. Paplow, said.

The induction ceremony is an important part of the Nation Honor Society because new members aren’t considered to be members until they are inducted. It is also a pleasant way to honor the incoming people. Once in the club, members are expected to participate in various service projects.

“I plan to help make the school better and I want to participate more. Sometimes I feel like if we all share ideas together we can make progress,” newly inducted sophomore Brendon Muniz, said.
