Germany has never had the best experiences with their economy, even after historic events including the two World Wars and the Cold War. Recently they, alongside Russia, have made a new gas pipeline known as “Nord Stream 2”, but it had some delays which caused gas prices to rise by 17%.
The 10 billion Euro project was finished in September 2021. The German energy regulator said that he delayed it because it “was not possible to validate the pipeline operators, unless they were approved by the German government.”
There was also conflict between the pipeline and Ukraine. German Chancellor Angela Merkel had explained that further charges will be put against Russia if they used the pipeline against Ukraine.
WJPS junior Claudio Corte explained, “Germany did make the right decision because the delay was intended to ensure more security.”
Another WJPS junior, Nicholas Zuvich, denoted, “The Germans made the right decision because Russia has too much power in modern politics. After this action, Russia will not take advantage of other countries.”
Germany’s energy regulator did make the right decision because they had to make sure Russia wasn’t using the pipeline for themselves.
It may have raised gas prices by 17%, but it was only to make sure that Russia wasn’t taking advantage of Germany.
