WJPS; a New York City public high school, looking to bring in more students for the 2015 school year, with school colors of navy and gold, has much to offer any student.
On Thursday, November sixth, the school held it’s second high school annual open house for prospective students and their families. The open house started at 6:30 pm and ended at 8:00 pm. The open house took place on the third floor, in various rooms.
“[I learned about WJPS] through a high school fair. [I’ve been] to other open houses and I liked how this one did different sections, it was very focused, unlike others. [I believe] my niece will like it here, she’s interested in journalism and the school has a lot to offer,” parent Julie Palta said.
When prospective students arrived, they were greeted by the school’s National Honor Society. Every student along with their families, received a schedule, that informed that of what would happen throughout the open house. The schedule provided information on Student Government & Activities, Academics & College Readiness, Journalism, and the Franklin Center for Science & Technology.
“Yes, [I would like to come here]. I think the students made us feel welcome and they were so nice. [It] makes me think that this is a good place,” prospective student Juan Pablo Chamilco said.
This open house gave all prospective students and families the chance to learn about all that the school has to offer. Everyone that attended had the opportunity to tour the school, as sessions were spaced out throughout the third floor. Refreshments and snacks were sold by the student run school store.
By attending, the opportunity to talk to administration, faculty and current seniors presented itself. Open houses are a beneficial experience for anyone wanting to learn more about the school besides what is shown.
