Empowerment is a core value in BALI and it does not stop a single day.
The Working Group on Girls visited the BALI girls to advocate for girls’ rights. Through an exercise, the BALI members were able to understand disparities in equity for girls all around the world.
With the members of WGG, the BALI girls also reflected upon their accomplishments, goals, hopes, and participation for girls’ rights.
As the second speaker, Cynthia North, spoke to the girls about grit and “it”. Grit is persistence. “It” is the talent.
If people with “it” do not exercise their talents, then they cannot surpass those who may exercise with grit, despite the fact that they are not born with the gift.
“I realized that the way we present ourselves is very important because it conveys our unique and individual ‘brands’. I consider myself to have grit because I persistently work towards my goals,” intern Farzana Khan said.
Final speaker of the day was Valerie Jeannis, who came for her second workshop called, “Dear Fear: It’s Over.” Through her time with the trainees, she motivated them to defeat their fears in achieving their dreams.
