Today, the girls were introduced to two diverse workshops that would benefit them in the near future.
Members of CREW New York joined the trainees and interns for career education and mentoring. They held a Real Estate Exercise in which the girls were renovating the Farley Post Office.
They needed to consider its surrounding area, transportation plan, and images and ideas of development. When remodeling, the uses, physical design, programs/events, sustainability, and financing and marketing had to be discussed as well.
Another guest came in for a lunch and learn session. While the girls enjoyed their lunch, Audace Green from Day One educated them about dating violence and domestic sex trafficking.
Some women enter the sex industry as a means of survival. Others join by force. Whatever the case may be, the reality is that there are women who are being looked upon as objects of sex.
Bringing awareness of these issues will help promote healthy relationships and prevent further rape crimes.
“It [Day One’s workshop] was good. I thought about my relationship with my parents,” trainee Mandy Wu said.
