Super bowl 50 happened last Sunday as the Denver Broncos were able to prevail against the weak Cam Newton and company.
Both teams struggled throughout the season to get to where they are. The Panthers were almost looking at a perfect season going into the Super bowl until one surprising and fatal loss against the Atlanta Falcons. They ended their season 15-1 clinching the NFC 1st seed. As for the Broncos they finished their season 14-2. Despite Peyton Manning being out for most of the season, backup quarterback Brock Osweiler and the help of the number 1 defense in the league still managed to stay on top form as they were able to clinch the 1st seed in the AFC .The Carolina Panthers looked as the stronger team before the game, becoming the only team that ended the preseason with a 15-1 ratio. Despite the team never winning a Super bowl, they looked as a favorite to win but that was all put to a shortstop as the Bronco’s defense were a key factor to the game
Though both teams have a very strong offense, Super bowl 50 was definitely a game of which side with the better defensive. The Broncos defense forced Newton to complete 18 of 44 passes, causing a fumble and interception throughout the process.
”We dropped balls, we turned the ball over, gave up sacks, threw errant passes,” Panthers Quarterback Newton said.
“ I don’t like Cam Newton. His dancing skills are too long. Their is a point where you celebrate and another point where you’re just being cocky and plain old annoying. It was a good game. It was definitely a good game but a defensive one. Both offense sucked but it was still amazing to watch,” senior Angelo Poulos said.
But it wasn’t only the Broncos defense that stepped up. The Panthers defense also were able to prevail, as they only allowed one touchdown. Peyton threw only 23 times and completed 13.” I feel like Peyton is a legend but this season I felt like he lost his arm, he’s dried out and should just retire”
As the Lombardi trophy is heading back to Denver, football fans will now cry every Sunday knowing that all they can do now is wait for next year’s season. That will of course bring more excitement and more football.
