Alan Rickman is most famously known for his role as Professor Snape in the Harry Potter Movies as well starring in Die Hard, Sense and Sensibility, and Love Actually. Sadly Rickman passed away on January 14 after his short battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 69.
“Alan Rickman has been in a lot of movies. Obviously I won’t only remember him as Snape one of my favorite character. I don’t think any other actor could have played him better from his facial expressions or lack thereof and the sound of his voice and sarcasm. His dedication to Harry and the movies and I’m glad they were able to finish filming the movies with him as Snape. I think the fact that he was able to bring a character like Snape to life as he did, did the book justice. It’s a real testament to him as an actor to be able to bring a loved character from the pages to real life,” English teacher Ms. Sackstein said.
Even though Rickman starred in other movies, the Harry Potter ones are what he is best known for. Many people say that Rickman brought something else to the character Professor Snape. Before Rickman died he told the press that J.K Rowling (the author of the Harry Potter books) told him a spoiler about the fate of his character before anyone else knew. Once Rickman died, Rowling told fans the secret, “I told Alan what lies behind the word ‘always’.”
“Snape [Alan Rickman] he was a really good actor. He was the only one who knew how it ended so he could play his character really well. Snapes is one of my favorite characters. At first you think he’s bad but then by the end of the books you know he is good,” 6th grader Matteus Schmelke said.
Even though Rickman will be greatly missed his voice will still be heard in the new Alice in Wonderland movie Alice Through the Looking Glass as the Blue Caterpillar when it hits theaters on May 27th.
