Some people wish they could live forever and never age. However, when that happened to one woman, she had to sacrifice more than she thought. Adaline had to watch her family and her one true love grow old while she was young and healthy. It was a heart aching experience.
The Age of Adaline, is an emotionally compelling love story where one must decide whether or not to risk it all for love or to let it all go. On April 24, The Age of Adaline, directed by Lee Toland Krieger came to theaters.
“This movie reminded me of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, except Adaline didn’t age backwards, she just didn’t age. It was an interesting twist,” moviegoer Timothy Kouris said.
Watching the suspense of a love story mixed with betrayal and trust throughout the film leaves the audience feeling some sadness and sympathy towards Adaline. The film goes back and forth between her past and present day, allowing the audience to understand Adaline’s past, her behaviors, and her fears.
For nearly eight decades, Adaline Bowman, (played by Blake Lively), never aged and remained a youthful 29 year old. During this time she has never allowed herself to get close to anyone at the risk of exposing the truth about her. That was all about to change once she met Ellie Jones, (played by Michiel Huisman) a charming philanthropist who seems to have caught Adaline’s attention, and passion for romance.
“The romance was heartfelt and sweet. I could actually feel her struggle and she ran from her past and her life. Although, it was a predictable ending I still wanted to see how everything would end for Adaline. It was the perfect ending,” moviegoer Jennifer Mullur said.
Upon meeting Ellis’ parents, Adaline soon finds herself and her life threatened, so she must make a decision that will affect the rest of her life. On the verge of risking it all, she must understand that once she gives up her immortality, it will be gone for good. Adaline needs to decide whether or not the man she has fallen for is truly worth it.
Watching Adaline learn trust and open herself up to those she least expects, the audience is captivated. The bits of drama and romance that were tied into the movie really makes the movie an enjoyable chick flick.
