Hollywood’s and fashion’s finest gathered for one of the biggest fashion nights of the year, Met Gala. Stars arrived at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in outfits created by the biggest fashion designers to celebrate the theme, “China: Through The Looking Glass” for its grand opening as an exhibit at the museum.
Stars like Gigi Hadid, Sofia Vergara, Hailee Steinfeld, Reese Witherspoon, and Miranda Kerr are a few who made a huge impression on the Red Carpet with their elegant, yet simple gowns and dresses. One star who sparked everyone’s attention with her simplicity and class was Kendall Jenner in Calvin Klein. In a green dress that sparkled from a mile away, Kendall Jenner was a talk of the night.
“Kim Kardashian looked so gorgeous in Peter Dundas for Roberto Cavalli. She was best dressed, in my opinion,” junior Josabeth Vinas said.
Like always, there were also those who were the most dramatically dressed. Some were outstanding, and some shouldn’t have gone that out at all. However, there were more of those who should have not dressed as dramatic as they did.
Beyonce, dressed in Givenchy with a high curly ponytail was one of the best. Jennifer Lopez, Wendi Murdoch, and Zendaya were also a few among those who were dramatic yet excellent. With their feathers and jewels and other major accessories, they did a great job impressing everyone by going all out for the occasion.
As previously said, there were a lot of stars who dressed too dramatically for the Met Gala. Rihanna, dressed in Guo Pei, was one of them. Her dress was way too heavy, her hair didn’t match the outfit at all, and overall it was a bit too exaggerated.
Other stars who were a bit too over dramatic and didn’t pull it off at all were Lady Gaga, Karen Elson, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Katy Perry. It seems as if they tried to hard to match the theme, and failed to do so. Going in a more simple and elegant direction would have worked perfectly for these stars, since they’re already beautiful enough.
Whether they were dressed simply or dramatically, there were stars who were among the worst dressed for the entire Met Gala. The worst of them all definitely goes to Solange Knowles. On top of her outfit being atrocious, it didn’t even fit the theme. She was dressed as an oyster in a strange dress. If she wanted to make a dramatic entrance, she should have taken tips from her sister, Beyonce.
Kristen Wiig, Miley Cyrus, Chloe Sevigny, and Kris Jenner are also on the very top of the worst dressed list. Their outfits were lousy, messy, and did not live up to the high expectations of this highly anticipated event. Hopefully these stars can do better next year, if they’re invited.
“In my opinion, Justin Bieber was [the] worst dressed. He always is,” trigonometry teacher Mr. Gardner said.
It wasn’t just the women who made impressions at the Met Gala, but the men did too. Robert Pattinson, Tony Goldwyn, David Burtka, and Neil Patrick Harris dressed in simple, black tuxedos and looked absolutely wonderful in them. Although their outfits didn’t really represent the theme because they were just simple tuxedos, they pulled it off by showing amazing class and excellence.
It’s hard to tell who was worst dressed between the men since they were all dressed so similarly. There were definitely a few who accompany Kristen Wiig, Miley Cyrus, Chloe Sevigny, and Kris Jenner on the worst dressed list. Justin Bieber and Jason Sudeikis are a few of them.
Bieber, dressed in Balmain, did fit the theme with the China-looking dragons on his jacket, but they were simply ugly. His sunglasses also ruined his entire outfit. On the other hand, Sudeikis could have done so much better too. His white jacket ruined the entire outfit, because everything else was black. His Prada outfit was a complete mess all because of his white jacket that didn’t match anything else he was wearing at all.
Overall, the Met Gala was filled with culture, colors, and excitement for the “China: Through The Looking Glass” theme. Although there were a few fashion misses, this year’s style at the Met Gala was a complete success.
