Another tragedy has occurred, a 7.9 magnitude earthquake called Gorkha took place in Nepal leaving 12,000 people injured and over 5,000 people dead. Gorkha shook the ground on April 25th leaving cities destroyed.
Gorkha earthquake affected not only Nepal it also affected India, China, Bangladesh and Bhutan. The earthquake also triggered an avalanche on Mount Everest, killing 19 people. The earthquake triggered another avalanche in Langtang valley, where many people are now missing.
“It’s so tragic and sad even though it didn’t happen to me personally. I feel really bad for the people who were affected by it and the fact that over 5,000 people died is devastating,” 8th Ashley Rosero said.
Now hundreds of thousands of people are left homeless because their houses were crumbled in the disaster. Even the heritage sites in Kathmandu valley have fallen and been damaged because of Gorkha.
With bodies being found under collapsed houses and buildings, many countries have started to help Nepal recover. Countries like India, Pakistan, China, Australia, and many more have been sending aid to Nepal. The aid includes blankets, food, and clothes for the people who are in need. Countries have also sent many medical supplies and money to help with the recovery.
“I think that what happened in Nepal is horrific, so many people lost their families and even their homes. Other countries helping out is amazing because everyone is coming together and actually focusing on something important,” junior Marcella Orlando said.
