WJPS introduces Ms. Baker this school year, teaching in room 251. She is teaching forensics, biology, and sixth grade science, having about 25 to 28 students in each class.
She enjoys teaching because she loves supporting and inspiring her students. Ms. Baker said, “I get excited when children get ‘aha’ moments and understand on their own.”
At her previous schools, she taught biology, seventh, eighth, and ninth grade science, and chemistry.
Her role model is her aunt who is an English teacher. She gained a greater understanding of literacy and performing arts.
Ms. Baker’s hobby is singing, and she auditioned on “America’s Got Talent.” She said, “It’s a form of expression that I connect to, and people connect with you.”
She started as a substitute teacher for two and a half years, mid-2018, and then became a science teacher. She believes that learning the basics and having a good foundation are important when learning a new subject.
This includes scientific terminology and information. She combines singing with teaching, making it easier to remember and learn new material.
Ms. Baker came to WJPS for a more balanced schedule now that her daughter has started high school.
Ms. Baker said, “I feel welcomed by the students, and I appreciate that.”
