This school year WJPS introcuded a new math teacher, Ms. Anderson Green.
She is originally from Jamaica, where she completed her teacher training and began her career at one of the country’s top-rated all boys schools.
In 2003, she moved to the United States and started teaching at a middle school. Green described it as a “culture shock.”
She noted differences in the students behavior and expectations and said she learned that she “couldn’t let the students walk all over her.”
Over the years, she has worked in different educational settings, including all-boys schools, all-girls schools, middle schools, and high schools.
Her most recent position was at Legacy Leadership Academy in Brownsville, Brooklyn.
Green stated WJPS is a bigger school than the one she worked at previously, but isn’t having trouble adjusting.
With experience across various school types and age groups, she has become familiar with different teaching environments and practices.
She joins WJPS prepared to continue her work in mathematics education and to help with the academic development of her students.
WJPS eighth grader Angelina Rosario said, “Ms. Green helps me learn things visually, which helps. She is preparing me for high school.”
