On May 17th, Korean Community Services (KCS) will be having a showcase of its Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Art Competition results.
The event will be held at the KCS Headquarters in Bayside, with doors opening at 10:00 AM and the ceremony will take place between 11:00 AM and noon.
The contest is sponsored by the YS Kim Foundation, a nonprofit focused on Korean American communities. The theme of the contest is “The Art of Belonging: Exploring AAPI Identity and Culture”.
WJPS art teacher Ms. Meneses said, “It’s a great way for students to take part in the competition that shows their culture, heritage, and pride while exhibiting their artistic talents.”
Submissions ended on April 30th, and participants needed to be New York State students in grades 1-12 who are of AAPI descent. Entries needed to be 2D, poster-sized, and not AI-generated or fanart in order to be eligible.
Prizes are $1000 for a grand prize winner, $500 for three category awardees each in elementary, middle and high school, and $100 for five honorable mentions.
WJPS ninth grader Justin Quilang said, “I think it’s a very good competition and the cause is very impactful to many people.”
