Ed Sheeran recently gave a great act of kindness to one of his fans in New Zealand. While on tour, the 24-year old singer took time out of his busy tour to surprise a fan with Leukemia.
Leukemia patient Jess Knight purchased tickets to see Sheeran two weeks before being diagnosed with the disease. Instead, Sheeran took time out of his schedule to surprise her at her Auckland hospital for her 20th birthday the weekend of April 11th 2015. The British born singer spent 30 minutes hanging out with Knight and her friends
With the help of Knight’s friends, Knight tried to catch Sheeran’s attention on social media with a Facebook event and Twitter hashtag #KiaOraEdPlsVisitJess to grab Sheeran’s attention and nicely beg him to visit her in the hospital. The constant begging and tweeting to Ed Sheeran definitely paid off, since he crashed her birthday party that weekend.
“When I was told he was coming, we all felt a bit shell-shocked. It was something we’d hoped would happen but it was a long shot,” Knight said.
Coincidentally, Knight’s beanie and Sheeran’s shirt color coordinated, which made Knight more ecstatic than she already was to meet him. The 30 minutes that Sheeran and Knight spent together were astounding for her as they spoke about food, films, and his approaching visit to South America.
“I would cry [if Ed Sheeran surprised me that way], obviously. He means so much to me and I would appreciate him more than I already do now and open my eyes wider to see the good in him and his caring attitude towards his fans’ well being,” junior Gillian Paolotti said.
Knight happily thanked all of her Facebook supporters after the surprise visit, calling Sheeran “a lovely guy! Really genuine and down to earth.”
