A pair of cops were injured by a group of robbery suspects in a housing project of Brooklyn, NY. The attack occurred as the officers were attempting to arrest the men, when the assailants suddenly turned the affair around.
“They were being arrested for a reason. To attempt to fight an official police officer is, well, foolish,” 6th grade Science Teacher Mr. Malmud said.
Between the two of them, officers suffered injuries in the head, neck, and shoulders, but managed to call for backup and the building was quickly surrounded by other police units.
They eventually arrested four suspects who were identified as William Rivera Sr., and his son William Rivera Jr., Noel Gonzalez-Colon, and David Rivera. Together they were charged with assault on a police officer, gang assault and resisting arrest; but Rivera Jr. was also charged with robbery.
“The suspects should have just waited, you know? [They should have] found out what’s going on, and get wherever the cops were gonna bring ‘em and just cooperate. These guys were in the wrong here, either way, now they’re going to get hit with assault charges,” junior Randy Charter said.
Both officers were taken to, and treated for non-lethal injuries at, Lutheran Medical Center, where they were later released.
