Recently, Overwatch announced their newest addition to the cast: Echo.
Overwatch is a team-based first person shooter game with a cast of 31 unique characters. Echo will be the thirty-second, coming soon.
Overwatch’s game director, Jeff Kaplan, recently released a developer update to the PlayOverwatch Youtube channel that goes deeply into the character.
Echo is an optic — an intelligent robot in the world of Overwatch — and will be a member of the “damage” category of heroes, whose primary task is to inflict damage on the opponent’s team.
World Journalism Preparatory School senior Brandon Levy stated, “Echo looks like a fun character. While I do think that damage characters are very plentiful, Echo is diverse enough to warrant not having a new tank or healer, as she works more as a support damage than a true damage.”
However, not all fans are excited for this character. “I feel like Echo should’ve been a tank instead of a damage hero because the number of damage heroes heavily outweigh both the tanks and the healers, and the tank role needs more representation because they’re honestly some of the most fun characters to play, in my opinion,” said WJPS senior Ryan Keane.
