Kanye West dropped his new single, “Only One” on New Year’s Eve, almost thirty minutes before midnight. The song is not a tune one would expect to hear from Kanye, but it is sure to open minds.
The collaboration with Paul Mccartney on the piano, includes a massive amount of auto-tune, but the song is still immensely catchy.
The song is sung in the perspective of his late mother, Donda West, as she addresses him about his one year old daughter, North West.
For this song, the lyrics of the new single are very tender and sincere unlike his previous album, “Yeezus” where the lyrics were irate and indignant. The chorus goes, “Hello my only one, just like the morning sun/ You’ll keep on rising till the sky knows your name.”
In this lyric, Donda talks to Kanye. She explains to him that God sent him two angels, referring to his wife, Kim Kardashian and their child, North West. “You asked for one and you got two.”
The songs ends with the refrain, “Tell Nori about me.” This line touched the hearts of many as Donda apprises Kanye to tell North about her.
West’s new album is going to be released in 2015. The single, Only One, is now available on iTunes.
