Many families have money issues resulting in having a lack of education. Some can not afford the cost and choose to go to community colleges which can still be pricey.
On January 20th, President Obama made an offer to have two years free of community college tuition for students. To keep the tuition free, students must maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher. There are many people feeling that this should have happened years ago.
“All students should be able to get a free education. Colleges started worrying about prices rather than the education, which is actually upsetting,” parent of a senior Jim Owens said.
In an announcement video posted to Facebook Obama said, “Everyone understands that education is the key to success for our kids in the 21st century, but what we also understand is that it’s not just for kids. We also have to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to constantly train themselves for better jobs, better wages, and better benefits.”
Allowing students to have free community college benefits both the students and their families. They will have a better education allowing them to further succeed in their lives.
“Having community college for free is such a relief. I can get a proper education without worrying about financial issues,” college student Lisa Murphy said.
