Entering the game with an impressive 12-2 record, the Memphis Grizzlies and their dominant front court defeated the Los Angeles Clippers in convincing fashion.
Center Marc Gasol led the way with an astonishing 30 points and 12 rebounds. This was the second consecutive game that Gasol scored at least 30 points.
“There was no doubt in my mind that Marc would be aggressive. Once you see the 12-2 start, we’re going to tell him to go get 30 every night,” point guard Mike Conley said.
Six of the Grizzlies contributed to the 107-91 victory by scoring in double figures each. Shooting guard Courtney Lee added 13 points, Shooting guard Tony Allen had 12 points, Power forward Zach Randolph had 10 points, and Point guard Beno Udrih and Shooting guard Quincy Pondexter both contributed with 11 points each.
It was a really tough game for the Clippers. They had a rocky start which proved to be detrimental to them in the long run. Point Guard Chris Paul led the team with 22 points.
Paul tried to get the Clippers on track, leading into halftime by scoring 13 points. They cut Memphis’ lead to eight points, however Memphis strengthened the lead to 25 points in the fourth quarter.
“Memphis quickly picked up momentum early in the first half. Every player on the Clippers, Chris Paul especially, tried to quell the Grizzlies, but it proved to be futile. I hope they can rebound from the loss,” sophomore Mike Hua said.
Chris Paul and the Clippers are currently on a long road trip, their next game is against the Charlotte Hornets on Monday. For Gasol and the Grizzlies, their next game is against the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday.
