Schools have their own set of rules that the students have to follow in order to keep everyone else safe and orderly. Without rules and discipline there would be so much chaos that nothing would be able to get done.
“In a high school, discipline is having the focus and willpower to do things you don’t necessarily want t
o do,” assistant principal Mr. Jurman said.
The school follows the New York CIty Department of Education’s citywide Standards of Intervention and Discipline Measures and Chancellors Regulations. This means the city has its own set of rules and regulations to follow, very different from other states and cities.
“Being in the NYC DOE, gives us some of the best disciplined kids in the country,” global history teacher Mr. Gembara said.
There are some students in the school who disagree with all of the strict rules that are enforced. “Rules are meant to be broken… nobody follows all the rules,” junior Ryan Knotegeon said.
Rules and regulations are very important to run a high school. If there weren’t any, there would be chaos all over the building. So over all, discipline is an essential part in running a high school.
