Prom Preview: Tuxedos and Suits

Dresses are a fashion staple, but male attire is an integral part of the prom experience.

In male fashion a common misconception is that what would be considered black tie attire is actually semi-formal wear.

Black tie attire is for men is a full tuxedo which is the essence of prom wear.

A bow tie is crucial along with a dress shirt, a waistcoat or cummerbund and a jacket. A tailed jacket is considered more formal than the tailless.

Semi-formal attire consists of  a dark suit and conservative tie. However, during prom it is common to wear more colorful options and bold patterns.

“I am wearing a black suit with a maroon bow tie and matching vest,” said senior Sammy Difazio.

A black and white tuxedo is a popular choice for it’s classic and timeless appearance.

More daring style choices include other neutral colors such as grey, tan, silver, brown, white, and navy blue tuxedos. These color choices can also be applied to semi-formal wear.

“I still need to go shopping, but I am most excited to hang out with my friends and have a good time. We don’t get to do that often outside of school,” said senior Kiante Singleton.

Dress shoes are the appropriate footwear and other accessories include shirt studs, cufflinks, or a boutonnière.

This year’s WJPS prom is June 6th at the Crest Hollow Country Club.
