Conor McGregor has done it again. Not only has he become the first ever Irish man to win a championship belt, but he now holds the fastest KO (knockout) in UFC, (ultimate fighting championship) history with 15 seconds in the first round.
“The Notorious” has now gained much fame after this event but, even before this, his fame was inevitable. McGregor fights in the featherweight division, a less popular class compared to more popular ones like the middleweight or heavy weight division but that hasn’t stopped people from watching this Irishman. He has 18 wins and two losses in his UFC career and has now become the first ever UFC fighter to gain 100 million dollars from a fight.
His 15 second knockout came in the UFC 194 fight of the night where he faced Jose Aldo the defending champion in the featherweight class. Aldo was successfully able to defend his title over eight times holding onto his belt for ten years and hasn’t faced a lost in over ten years. He has 25 wins and one loss. Despite this McGregor went into the fight taunting and even bothering Aldo. All his intimidation got to him in the 15 second as he hit the floor, making McGregor the new featherweight champion, with the fastest knock record ever.
“Having Conor McGregor as champion is amazing. He’s the best in the world and can beat anyone. I love that he’s Irish and gives a good name for our country,” senior Frankie Salerno said.
Now that he has become the new champion and has gained his fame he must now defend his title as Frankie “the answer” Edgar wishes to make him his next opponent.
“The guy says he would fight Frankie if Frankie took care of business. Well, he did, so he should be a man of his word and stop being so scared. He’s the one that’s been scared for so many years cutting down from 180, 175 to fight guys with less range, weight and height, while Frankie was 152 fighting 155. So now you have the belt – man up and defend it. Like they said in Braveheart, ‘Don’t tuck tail and run,'” Frankie’s head coach Mark Henry said.
Despite this comment the two have yet to schedule a fight but it is very likely that “the answer” will be McGregor’s next opponent as he now wishes to defend his new title belt.
