“It made me realize that I took the simple things in life for granted. Pommes Frites was such a good fry place to rely on and then it was gone. My first thought when hearing about the explosion wasn’t if there were lives lost, but if Pommes Frites was gone for good,” junior Elizabeth Browne said.

Pommes Frites was a restaurant that specialized in Belgian style french fries. It was located in the East Village at 123 2nd Avenue. It was very popular and was definitely a go to place when visiting the Lower East Side (L.E.S) of NYC, but disaster struck.

In late March, an explosion rocked the L.E.S. demolishing a building and two restaurants surrounding it, Pommes Frites and Sushi Park.

Pommes Frites, located right off of St. Mark’s Place, was a very small and intimate restaurant. The restaurant served great french fries, at a cheap cost. It was famous for its various arrays of special sauces customers could choose to put on their fries. They offered sauces such as mango chutney, hot sauce, rosemary garlic mayo and many more. The restaurant also offered poutine, french fries covered in cheese curds and gravy.

Many people were devastated when they learned that Pommes Frites had burned down, since it was said to be one of the best fry places in New York.

Recently, Pommes Frites has announced that they had bought a new spot to rebuild their restaurant. It will be located at 128 Macdougal St. New York, NY. Pommes Frites website states that the restaurant should be up and running within the first months of 2016.
