After several attempts of peaceful protest, Baltimore broke out in riots.

On April 27th, many cops ended up wounded due to the riots. This all came after the death of Freddie Gray, who died while in police custody. Gray was arrested under a Baltimore city ordinance prohibiting knives. The riots were so bad students were restricted from going to school the following day. Riots were made the day of Gray’s funeral.

“I feel that the people are overreacting and they are ruining the places where they live,” senior Quincy Tunstall said.

More than two dozen people have already been arrested because of the riots they have caused/made. According to CNN, authorities said that 1,500 members of the National Guard have been deployed.

“No I don’t feel the treatment is not right; these people are only doing their job,” junior John Szymkiewicz said.

Rioters did things such as, throwing rocks at police, vandalizing patrol cars, and injuring cops. Fifteen polices officers were injured that Monday, remaining hospitalized. This even affected the MLB team The Orioles, giving them no choice but to postpone their game against the Red Sox.

“I don’t believe violence is the answer but I understand the reason people feel the way they feel,” Science teacher Ms.Cimini said.

Riots are still happening in Baltimore today, including shootings and injuries of cops. Baltimore riots are believed to be caused because of the death of Gray and happening to get vengeance against police officers.
